One century of change, 8 years in the waiting. In the 2 hour spectacular showcase, all was summed up with a single moment when the torch is lit – This is China, look at us now!

There is no describing how I felt when watching the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. No words can do it justice. For a Chinese watching the event, it is hard to explain the emotions that was stirred from the singular moment of when the Olympic touch, perched on top of the Bird’s Nest in Beijing, burst into flames. Nothing but an powerful sense of pride, patriotism and passion.

The Beijing Games has been dogged with politics (Tibet), pollution scaremongering, threats of boycotts and bias, unprofessional reporting. The Olympics is not the stage for political lobbying. It is not the arena for campaigners and protests.

The Birds Nest

For the duration of the ceremony, the only thing resonated loud and clear was the hard work and dedication of each individual performer. Their hard work and commitment really showcased what these Games really meant for us Chinese. The world watched in awe.

And after watching, I could not be more proud of what has been delivered. Let the Games begin! 加油中国!
